If you’re looking to get some bang for your buck, lavender oil is a godsend. Whether you want to use the fragrant essential oil for practical purposes around the house or holistic healing, lavender oil is packed with health benefits and everyday uses that shouldn’t be ignored.

The oil, which is primarily produced in Bulgaria these days, can easily be obtained from your local natural health food store, online, or in myriad other specialty shops and large stores alike. Once you get your hands on some lavender oil, proceed to decide on how you’ll be using it – it might not be an easy decision!

1. Acne.

When I went to a holistic spa in Brooklyn, New York, my therapist seemed happy at the beginning of my session that I had been using tea tree oil to treat acne. However, by the end of the session, she recommended that I start using lavender oil instead. Why? Because tea tree oil is notoriously strong and my skin is woefully sensitive. In the same way that lavender helps to soothe acne, it can help to soothe many other skin irritations, as well.

2. Insect and Rodent Repellent.

You can line your floors in suspicious places (under the stove, refrigerator, etc.) with lavender oil to help keep everything from mice to cockroaches at bay. Lavender oil also works as a mild mosquito repellent (full disclosure: it doesn’t work for me, but it does work for my husband).

3. Aromatherapy.

Whether you want to use lavender’s scent to comfort you when you are experiencing anxiety or if you simply want to include lavender oil in a massage for enhanced relaxation, this oil has plenty of aromatherapy potential.

4. Cleaning Supplies.

Lavender oil can give your cleaning supplies an added sensory boost. Add a few drops into your homemade laundry detergent or homemade all-purpose cleaner for a great smelling home.

5. Cosmetics.

A few drops of lavender oil in your mascara can help to lengthen your eyelashes while keeping bacteria that grows in mascara bottles away. You can also add a few drops of lavender to your shampoo, body wash, bath salts, conditioner, shaving gel, lotion, or any other beauty product that could use the all-natural improvement.

6. Tea.

Lavender infused tea is delicious and calming.

7. Dry Eyes.

Try dabbing a small amount of lavender oil on the bridge of your nose to promote tear production.

8. Motion Sickness and Nausea.

It has been said that a small spot of lavender oil behind the ears can help alleviate the symptoms of motion sickness and general nausea.

9. Nosebleed.

Some people say that a small amount of lavender on a tissue wrapped around ice can soothe a nosebleed.

10. Dandruff.

Gently rub a few drops of lavender oil into your scalp to reduce dandruff.

11. Sleep Aid.

You can rub the oil on your palms or even directly onto your pillowcase for sleep assistance. The scent of lavender is calming and can help you to relax enough to fall asleep at night.
