Audio Visual Entrainment (AVE) is a key component to the BrainCore Therapy System. With the use of flashing lights and pulsing tones BrainCore AVE can guide the brain into any brainwave pattern thus facilitating the neurofeedback process.
The electrical signals traveling along the neurons in the brain produce brainwaves. There are four types of brainwaves produced based upon the signals that are being communicated. Each of these brain waves are distinguished based upon their frequency range and represent a different state of mind. Brain wave frequency is defined as the number of times per second the wave repeats itself.
Beta Waves 12Hz to 21Hz Produced when you are awake and engaged in active thought.
Alpha Waves 8Hz to 12Hz Produced mostly when you close your eyes and relax.
Theta Waves 4Hz to 8Hz Produced when you start to fall asleep.
Delta Waves 1Hz to 4Hz Produced when you are sleeping.
The goal of BrainCore Therapy is to normalize brainwave patterns by training the brain to produce certain brainwaves. Depending upon the protocol, the BrainCore System will teach the patient’s brain to increase a particular brainwave frequency. For example, one of the BrainCore training protocols for ADD/ADHD is to increase the production of Beta waves. This is accomplished by attaching sensors to the patient’s scalp. These sensors will pick up the brainwaves and display them on the computer screen. The patient then watches a video or plays a computer game that is controlled entirely by their ability to produce the desired wave, in this case Beta waves. When the patient’s brain produces the Beta wave the video or game proceeds; when the patient’s brain stops producing that wave then the video or game stops playing. Eventually the brain learns to produce the desired brain wave at will.
Brainwave entrainment involves the use of pulsing tones and flashing lights to direct the brain to produce a certain brainwave. The BrainCore AVE device includes a set of glasses that have flashing lights along the frame and a set of headphones attached to the main device. The BrainCore AVE software allows the doctor to select a specific AVE protocol that will produce pulsing tones and flashing lights with the exact frequency range that was selected. For example, as we stated earlier one of the BrainCore training protocols for ADD/ADHD is to increase the production of Beta waves which have a frequency range of 12Hz to 21HZ. In addition to the BrainCore neurofeedback described above, the BrainCore system will also produce pulsing lights and sounds at the 12Hz to 21Hz frequency range. Through the specific visual and auditory stimulus, in this case, the patient’s brain is guided to produce the desired Beta waves. It’s like training wheels for the brain. Eventually the brain will not need the AVE and will learn to produce those brain waves at will.
The BrainCore AVE device enhances the neurofeedback training by reducing the amount of time it takes for the brain to learn the desired lesson. By incorporating this therapy into the system, BrainCore reduces treatment time and total number of treatment visitsand produces a more vigorous effect and allows the brain and body to operate optimally.
