Maybe you’ve tried using binaural beats for lucid dreaming, but what about isochronic tones?

Isochronic tones are a form of brainwave entrainment even more powerful than binaural beats, and are better for lucid dreams in a variety of ways.

People have been using theta wave and delta wave binaural beats for sleep and lucid dreaming for years, but only in the last few years have isochronic tones been researched, and the findings are surprising. This guide takes that research and gives you everything you need to know to induce your own wake induced lucid dreams using isochronic tones meditation.

Isochronic Tones vs Binaural Beats

Ok, so you’ve heard of binaural beats, maybe you’ve even used them to induce a WILD. So why use isochronic tones instead? Well, there are quite a few reasons:

• Isochronic tones are proven more effective

• Isochronic tones don’t require headphones, binaural beats do

• You can entrain multiple frequencies with isochronic tones

Honestly, the big factor here is the use of headphones.

A lot of people have trouble sleeping or relaxing fully with headphones on, and this can completely kill any chance of having a lucid dream.

So, I would recommend using isochronic tones for lucid dreaming.

How to Lucid Dream with Isochronic Tones

Alright, so you want to have a lucid dream, you decided to go with isochronic tones, how exactly do you do that? Essentially, the process is to use what I call progressive frequencies.

You’ll start out with high-end alpha waves and eventually slow your brain waves down to low match the frequency of low theta waves.

There are basically three parts to this process: relaxation, the hypnagogic state, and dream entrance. You’ll want to have the progressive frequencies I’ll list at the end of this guide already queued up in your music player, so you can concentrate your efforts on achieving your lucid dream.


To begin with, you need to relax. Begin your playlist, lie down, and get comfortable. Focus on your breathing, and if your thoughts drift, simply return them to your breathing when you become aware of this.

As the alpha wave isochronic tones progress, this combined with focusing on your breathing should bring you to a state of deep relaxation within 15–20 minutes. If you find that you need more or less time to relax, simply adjust the length of time you play alpha waves before progressing to the next stage.

Hypnagogic State

This is the dreamy state that marks the doorway between wakefulness and sleep. Ideally you should reach this point near the end of the alpha wave part of the session but before the theta waves begin playing.

It’s not an exact science. When you feel this stage start, you’ll want to begin your normal preparations for entering a lucid dream, which is usually individualized so I can’t tell you what those are. For me, it’s to begin building up objects one by one using visualization techniques until I’ve constructed my desired dream scene.

The theta waves that are playing for the first 10 minutes of this allow you do to this, so if you need more time visualizing, adjust the length of time for the 7Hz and 6.3Hz frequencies.

Dream Entrance

By the time the 5Hz or 4.5Hz theta frequency begins to play, you should be slipping from the hypnagogic state into a full on lucid dream. Alternatively, you may find yourself having an OBE if you fall asleep before completing your dream scene. If this happens, you can perform a reality check to determine whether or not you’re dreaming. If you experience sleep paralysis during this state, the key is to relax and to visualize a new dream scene.

Progressive Frequencies

Alright, so you’ve got an idea of how the process works, but what are the frequencies that will take you there? This list of frequencies was carefully crafted by me with several months of trial and error using Neuro Programmer 3 to find the best isochronic tones and the best method. There are additional frequencies that I now use, but a lot of this has to be adjusted individually.

10.5Hz Alpha wave — Play for 5 minutes. This attunes your brain to the brainwave entrainment session and begins the relaxation process

10Hz Alpha wave —Play for 10 minutes. This will be the bulk of your relaxation stage here, and if you need to lengthen or shorten the relaxation stage, do it with this frequency

8.3Hz Alpha wave —Play for 5 minutes. This will begin to take you into deep relaxation, and is a necessary frequency to help your mind prepare for visualization

7Hz Theta wave —Play for 5 minutes. This should be near the start of your hypnagogic state, and will allow for the greatest visualization power while still retaining some awareness

6.3Hz Theta wave —Play for 3 minutes. You could skip this frequency if you are entering the dream too fast, but I’ve found it helps to build a complete dream scene

5Hz Theta wave —Play for 5 minutes. This should take you to the very brink of your lucid dream

4.5Hz Theta wave —Play as long as you want. This helps to ensure that you continue to dream, and also keeps you relaxed and reduces negative feelings and effects in the dream itself

Where to get Isochronic Tones

Alright, so I know isochronic tones are pretty new and it’s going to be really hard to find all the required tones.

If you need to, you can leave out the 10.5Hz, 6.3Hz, and 4.5Hz tones and compensate by adjusting the times of the others, but the rest of the frequencies are essential to the process. A lot of the isochronic tones you’ll find on youtube are fake, so I download the free 2-week trial of Neuro Programmer 3 and testing it out before you stick any money into buying genuine isochronic tones.

I will however, recommend Neuro Programmer 3 for any long-term serious use for lucid dreaming. It has all the features and tones necessary for the best experience.
